Another purge...

Finally made some time to cleanse my work room of some the debris that had been building up in the there over the last couple months. I was sad to see some of it go (you never know when you'll need some multicolored interconnect...) but, overall, it felt good to purge. Was getting chaotic in there!

I actually "necked" a yoke-free Philips A66EAK while pulling stuff out of the car at the rubbish dump. Was a little frightening as there was a crazy rush of gas when the glass tubing broke. Quite dramatic! Luckily it wasn't a tube of value...

In other news, I got around to trying out a tiny Sanyo I found on the side of the street a while back. I couldn't get an image using my home-made VGA to SCART cable but it fired up just fine using my new Arcade Forge UMSA. Looks pretty nice actually!

Before I returned from my parents' house in the country today, I decided to stop by their local waste dump in case there were some TVs laying about. As you can see in the following pictures, yeah, they did have a few TVs kicking about...

Enough tubes to last several lifetimes! I didn't take any TVs but sliced off about five VGA cables to build VGA to SCART cables with. Nice score and amazing (if somewhat depressing) sight!

Explosive Blaupunkt

A while ago I was given a massive Blaupunkt 82-108 C VT Multi PIP. It was pretty old (pre digital) and I was interested to see how it would perform as a MAME monitor. It sat in the hallway for weeks because it was too heavy for me to move by myself. Eventually, I got some help to move it into the lounge room and plugged it in. The screen came on and I saw snow (always a good sign!) However, a minute lately the back of the TV started sparking and something definitely "popped". Bummer.

The worse part was carrying the behemoth back down the stairs and taking it to the dump. My back (and my girlfriend's) will probably complain tomorrow!

The TVs that had issues or weren't working at all were taken to this tip this afternoon. A very sad affair... I would have to love to have kept them for parts. Alas, no room!
